Charles Younkin

Charles N. Younkin (“Yogi), 93, of Ligonier passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, Feb 29, 2024. He was born June 16, 1930 in Wilkinsburg, PA, a son of the late George Emmons Younkin and Harriette (Keenan) Younkin.

Chuck proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Airforce, a member of the 375^th Medical Group, a unit of the 375^th Troop Carrier Wing, Greenville, South Carolina.

Chuck retired in 1985 after a successful 30-year career as a metallurgical engineer and manager of research for Latrobe Steel Company (Timken). Chuck delighted in the fact that he played longer than he worked and spent the next 38 years enjoying a very active retirement.

Throughout his busy life, Chuck enjoyed playing and teaching tennis, was a VFR licensed pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol, competed in golf, bowling, dart, shooting, and archery leagues, among many other activities. He enjoyed exercising at the local YMCA, fencing competitions and refereed swim meets. He participated in the Westmoreland County Senior Games and in 2004 became their Senior Sportsman of the Year. He was a lifelong member of St Michael’s Episcopal Church in Rector, PA and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Margaret (Meg), his two daughters: Kim Felgar (New Stanton, PA), Shawn and her husband Gary Locke (Endicott, NY), son Kurt and his wife Tish (Campbell), two grandsons: Michael Charles Markosky (Ligonier) and Matthew and his wife Michelle (Gainesville, VA), two great-grandchildren Sadie May and Brett Charles, sister Patricia Younkin and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Snyder-Green Funeral home, 402 E. Church St, Ligonier PA on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A memorial service will be held at St Michael’s Episcopal Church, 2535 PA-381 Rector, PA on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow in the adjacent Parish.
