David Shafran

David A. Shafran, 73, of Ligonier, passed away on June 27, 2025. He was born July 30, 1951, in Latrobe. He was the son of the late Stephen and Dorothy (Aukerman) Shafran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Stephen M. Shafran Jr. and James Edward Shafran, and his niece, Kelly Leah Shafran. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. David had an unwavering love for animals particularly his cherished cat Susie. He was known affectionately as Big Chief Davie, was a longtime collector of antique fire equipment. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Standard Steel and Teledyne Vasco as a forklift operator. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy S. Shafran; two brothers, Frank (Joyce) Shafran of Latrobe and Jeff (Jane) Shafran of Latrobe; a sister-in-law Barb Shafran; numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday in the Snyder-Green Funeral Home Inc 402 East Church St. Ligonier. A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in the funeral home. Private interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel Lutheran Church.
