Edward Conroy Jr.

January 7, 1935 — March 27, 2026

Edward Aloysius Conroy Jr., a man whose life was marked by enduring dedication, unwavering faith, and a spirit warm with humor, passed away on March 27, 2026. Born January 7, 1935, Ed’s journey was one of steadfast commitment — to his family, his community, and his cherished beliefs.

Ed made Ligonier his home for over half a century. His career in laboratory supply sales to regional hospitals was a testament to his tireless work ethic and professionalism. Yet, it was alongside his beloved wife, Joanne (Johnson) Conroy, that he embraced a venture close to their hearts—the ownership and management of The Underneath, a clothing store in Ligonier. Ed also supported community service organizations including overnight supervision at a home for troubled boys, local schools as a school bus driver, and driving people to medical appointments across the southwestern Pennsylvania region. Their marriage of over 68 years was a profound bond, one Ed cherished deeply. His devotion to Joanne defined much of his life’s mission, and her passing left an indelible mark upon his heart.

Ed’s life was richly interwoven with his Catholic faith. A devoted member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, he immersed himself in theological studies and engaged with the Oblates of St. Benedict at St. Vincent College. His contributions to Holy Trinity were numerous and heartfelt: from leadership in the Church Council to administering communion, assisting with weekly collections, reading Scripture, and assisting with fund raising events such as Fish Fry and Fort Ligonier Days dinners. He was also actively involved in the Marriage Encounter, where he extended his support and guidance to couples seeking to strengthen their marriages.

It brought joy to Ed to see his family come together for reunions, birthdays, and holiday gatherings. He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Dech (widow of the late Michael Dech); his children Dennis, Mike, Steve, Brian, and Cathy; as well their spouses, 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Their lives bear the indelible imprint of Ed’s kindness, wisdom, and enduring love. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joanne Conroy; his parents Edward Conroy Sr. and Mary (Reitmeier) Conroy; and his brother Joseph Conroy, husband of the late Helen (Wanless) Conroy.

The community will gather to honor Ed’s memory on April 18, 2026 with a visitation at Snyder-Green Funeral Home, located at 402 East Church Street, Ligonier, PA, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM followed by a reception at Ed’s house at 407 Summit Avenue, Ligonier, PA
