Fred Lewis May Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted husband, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on August 6, 1942, in Mount Pleasant, PA, Fred lived a life rich in love, laughter, and tradition. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. National Guard, where he served honorably at the rank of E-4, embodying the values of dedication and service that defined him.

As a machinist, Fred found pride in his work, contributing to the craftsmanship that his profession demanded. However, it was within the walls of his home, surrounded by family, where he truly thrived. Fred was a man who wore many hats; he raised five daughters—Debra (Bob) Dempsey, Cheri (Bob) Weber, Dana McAdams, Erika (Scott Goodlin) Showalter, and Kimberly (Adam) Huff—and embraced the responsibility with a loving heart.

Fred was known for his captivating storytelling prowess and a sense of humor that could ignite joy in any gathering. His warmth and kindness were felt by all who crossed his path, often offering help to anyone in need, and he had a generous spirit that would often lead him to give the shirt off his back. His community was richer for his social presence and his recognition as a faithful friend.

In his leisure, Fred cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to attend their sporting events or share in the excitement of car shows. His love for classic cars shone brightly, with a particular fondness for Mustangs and his first car, a Ford Fairlane. Memories of hunting trips and car auctions enveloped his past, leaving behind stories that will continue to resonate with family and friends alike.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca Sue (Markle) May, who shared in decades of happy moments with him. He also leaves behind a legacy of grandparenting that includes Jessica (Jeff) Roebuck, Jonathan (Mandy) Dempsey, Mandy McAdams, Bobby (Kate) Weber, Alex McAdams, Sarah McAdams, Kelci (EJ) Hlebowicz, Johnny Showalter, Kaylee Huff, Maggie Huff, and Hunter Huff. His great-grandchildren—Autumn Dempsey, Athena Hlebowicz, Maddie Roebuck, Luke Roebuck, and Ares Hlebowicz—will undoubtedly carry his spirit forward in their lives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred L. and Beatrice (Chacken) May Sr.

He is survived by his sister, Nancy May-Carey, resides in North Carolina, keeping his memory alive in her heart.

As Fred's life was deeply rooted in his Christian beliefs, we find solace in knowing that he passed into eternal rest with faith guiding him on this final journey. His family and friends will find strength in the memories they've created together, celebrating the life of a man that was truly kind, humorous, and affectionate.

Services for Fred will be held at Snyder-Green Funeral Home in Ligonier, PA, with viewings scheduled on March 8, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by Military Funeral Honors presented by the Ligonier Valley Honor Guard at 7 P.M. A funeral service at will be held at 7:15 PM officiated by Pastor Phillip May. In honoring his vivid spirit, may those who loved him continue to cherish his memory and share in the stories he left behind.
