Howard Bitzer

Howard C. Bitzer of Ligonier passed away on February 15, 2025 at Independence Hospital Latrobe.  

He was born September 2, 1926 in Pittsburgh to the late Theodore and Emma (Redling) Bitzer. 

Graduated from Peabody High School class of 1944.  He was a Navy veteran served in the Pacific.  He graduated from California State College. Retired from Westinghouse Pittsburgh.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers Theodore, Lloyd, Kenneth, Clayton and William. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ann Bitzer; step-daughter Chris Ann Shadron and step son Marc A. Schmucker.

He is survived by his wife Joann Skoloda Schmucker Bitzer; son Howard Bitzer (Alicia) ; stepchildren Jeff Schmucker (Kami), Mary Clark (Tom), Angela Herrholtz (Shane); daughter-in-law Brenda Schmucker; son-in-law Mike Shadron and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 special nieces Linda Lahm and Janet Fraser.  

Memorial donations in Howard's name can be made to St. Jude.

Honoring Howard's wishes, all services will be private.
