Howard Scanlon

Howard James "Jim/Butch" Scanlon, 92, peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at his home. He was born May 28, 1930, in Trafford. He was the son of late Daniel Scanlon and Regina Trakofler. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Helen Piper Scanlon, and his grandson, Chad Delier Scanlon. His is survived by his children, Matthew J. Scanlon (wife Kiew), Arthur C. Scanlon, Benjamin M. Scanlon (wife Heather), Audrey M. Partlow (husband Bill), James T. Scanlon (wife Marie Paule), Amy E. Sullenberger (husband Dale), Laurie A. Wilkinson (husband Todd) and Samuel J. Scanlon (wife Molly); and 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Charles Scanlon, from California, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Boniface Church, of Acme, and St. Raymond's, of Donegal. He served four years in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Westinghouse with 28 years of service. Jim enjoyed singing with SPEBSQSA Chorus and a barbershop quartet. He traveled around the state singing at events. He was such a good singer he got injured running from the women groupies. His first band was Matt and the Has Beens, in which he was the lead singer and played the harmonica. He was an avid golfer and had a hole in one at the age of 85. There were so many volunteers for pallbearers, but we couldn't find a casket long enough. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the SNYDER-GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 402 E. Church St., Ligonier. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Raymond of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rose Memorial Park.
