Joseph "Joe" Vella, a cherished member of his community and beloved family man, was born on February 3, 1971, and sadly passed away on April 29th, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy enriched by his passion for cooking, and a profound love for family. Joe's career as a software developer saw him rise to the esteemed position of President at Divium for a decade, showcasing not only his professional acumen but also his charismatic personality as a great speaker.
Joe's educational journey included attending Latrobe High School and courses at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, alongside pursuing a master's degree at Geneva College. His commitment to learning and growth was a testament to his character and determination. A proud veteran of the United States Marines, Joe exemplified dedication and service both in his military career and in civilian life.
Outside of work, Joe had a diverse range of interests that included golfing, cooking, and nurturing a welcoming spirit. He was an avid cook and took pride in being a great chef, often preparing meals for family and friends. His contributions to the community extended further as he helped coach golf as an assistant at Ligonier Valley High School, a role that reflected his love for the sport and dedication to mentoring young athletes.
Joe was actively involved in various organizations, being a member of the Ligonier Masonic Lodge No. 331 and the Ligonier Country Club, as well as a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Ligonier Valley School Board serving in various positions. JROTC rep, and at one point he was Chair of District 8, he was currently a WIU representative, and he was the leader of the LVSD Strategic Plan Committee. Joe was also a former board member of Fort Ligonier and the YMCA.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Connie (Koeninger) Vella, his mother and father, Salvatore and Ann Marie (DeVitis) Vella; his brothers, Salvatore (Molly Nader) Vella Jr. and Michael (Rachael) Vella; and his cherished children, Steven, Zachary, and Grace Vella. Joe's legacy lives on through each of them as they cherish the memories of a man who was not only welcoming and charismatic but also deeply committed to his family. Joe is preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter and Ida Mae Buchan, whose influence surely guided his character and values.
A viewing in honor of Joe will be held on May 2, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, at Snyder-Green Funeral Home located at 402 East Church Street, Ligonier, PA. His funeral service will be held at Snyder-Green Funeral Home on May 2, 2025, at 6:00 PM. The Ligonier Valley Honor Guard will perform honors Friday at 7:00 PM.
