Kathryn DeMao

August 21, 1949 — April 1, 2024

Kathryn Sue DeMao died on Monday, April 1,2024. She was born August 21,1949, in Independence, MO. She was the daughter of the late Gerald and Dorothy Johnson and late sister Carole Johnson. Her husband Arthur DeMao, died in 1996 and was the love of her life.

 

Kathy was a graduate of ASU with a BS in Education. Before her retirement Kathy was a secondary teacher in Arizona and Colorado. When she came to Ligonier in 1980 she was a substitute teacher. Then after raising her children she worked at Travels Unlimited. She was an active part of the community, she was involved in helping at Blackburn Center and was a member at Holy Trinity Church. She is leaving behind wonderful friends in the Ligonier and Richmond area. 

 

Kathy was the heart and soul of her family-she loved her them more than anything in this world. She & her family traveled a lot but going to the beach was her favorite escape. 

 

She is survived by two daughters and a son: Lisa DeMao, Michele (Brandon) Hollonbeck and Jon DeMao; and four precious grandchildren, Arthur DeMao; Maddalena Hollonbeck; Heinrich Hollonbeck; and Raffaella Hollonbeck.

 

Friends and family will gather together from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday April 5th at Snyder-Green Funeral Home, 402 E. Church St.  Ligonier, PA.  Reception will follow at the Ligonier Tavern at 5:30pm.

 Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6th at Mount St. Peter Church, New Kensington, PA

Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery, Arnold, PA will a luncheon to follow at Hoffstot's Cafe Monaco in Oakmont Pa. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Kathy’s memory to two charities.  Kathy loved literature and reading and cared deeply about domestic violence: 

Blackburn Center, Greensburg,PA and Reading Is Fundamental.com
