Mary Jane Snyder, 74, of Ligonier, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Concordia at Bethlen. Born April 22, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Matthew L. Snyder and the granddaughter of the late Mary K. (Corcoran) Sweitzer.
She was a 1969 graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School, a 1973 graduate of Seton Hill College, and later earned her master’s degree from Duquesne University.
She began her career with the City of Pittsburgh, where she served on the committee that helped establish the Three Rivers Arts Festival. She later worked for the U.S. Department of Defense and ultimately retired as a Foreign Service Officer (FSO) of the U.S. State Department, traveling extensively throughout her career.
A devoted supporter of the arts and an active volunteer, Mary Jane generously gave her time to her parish and community while continuing to travel the world. She was a devout Catholic and a Benedictine oblate, living her faith with prayerful dedication and quiet fidelity.
After retirement, she returned home to Ligonier, where she embraced her role as a godmother and became like a second grandmother to her great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Susan Scarpelli (Jim), Mary Margaret “Meg” Snyder, and Mary Catherine “Cathy” Sherman (Gary); three nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Funeral Luncheon Ministry, Faith in Action, or Meals on Wheels.
Mary Jane lived her life in prayer, service, and generosity, and she leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and love.
