Norbert John Pail Sr., of Ligonier, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at Concordia at Bethlen, of Parkinson's Disease and Levy body dementia. He was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Norman Pail and Agnes (Kaib) Pail. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic Elementary School and then North Catholic High School. Norb graduated from North Catholic High School with the Class of 1957. Norb then attended Duquesne University and graduated in 1961. He then served in the U.S. Navy for three years as a commissioned officer on the U.S.S. Randolph in the Engineering Department. In 1964, he enrolled in Wake Forest University School of Law and graduated in 1969. In 1968, he married Marcella Kuruc at Heinz Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh, where she graduated from, and they then lived in North Carolina for one year. Upon returning to PA, Mr. Pail worked at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh primarily as a trust officer and an in-house counsel for a prominent family. Mr. Pail also attended the National Graduate Trust School of Northwestern University. Norbert was a family man and always supportive of his family and a strong belief in God. Norbert belonged to the Ligonier Country Club and so enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He also skied at Seven Springs in the winter and also belonged to the Ligonier YMCA. Norbert was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Ligonier. In addition to this his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Betty Kuruc; his sister, Agnes O'Malley; his son-in-law, Jason Brown; and his aunts, Regina Kail and Marian Wehmer. Norbert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marcella E. (Kuruc) Pail, of Ligonier, and his children, Norbert John Pail Jr. and his wife, Judith, and their children, Aaron, Julianne, Audric and A.J., and his daughter, Aimee, and her children, Analise and Cowan, and his daughter, Alison Cobo and her husband, (Matt), and their children, Ollie and Natalie, and his daughter, Anmette English and her husband, (Neil), and their children, Corin and John. Norbert is also survived by his sister, Cathy Lucas (Larry), and their children, Larry Jr., Robert , Jeffrey, Timothy and Danny. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, in Holy Trinity Parish, in Ligonier, which includes the blessing of ashes at the church. A private entombment will follow in Mary Mother of Mercy Mausoleum Chapel at St. Vincent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the scholarship fund of the Ligonier Valley YMCA or the Food Bank.
