Sandra Karfelt

Sandra L. Karfelt, 68, of Weltytown, passed away peacefully from complications of Huntington’s Disease, with with her loving husband by her side on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Born December 13, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Edward and Mildred Ruth (Shaffer) Brady.

Sandra retired from Norvelt Elementary School after a 37-year tenure as both a kindergarten and first grade teacher.  She was a member of the NEA and PSEA-Retired, and a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Donegal.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling to Deep Creek Lake, and dinner dates with the love of her life, and best friend of 34 years, Frank J. Karfelt.

In addition to her husband, Sandy is survived by four brothers, James (Rose) Brady, Patrick (Noreen) Brady, William (Dr. William Hunter) Brady, and Michael (Joy) Brady; cherished nieces and nephews, Glenn (the late Kelly) Brady, the late Mark Brady,  Johanna (Michael) Golkosky, Jill (Rick) Painter, Erin (Chad) Clark, Elizabeth Brady, Emily Brady, Ellen Brady, and Eileen Brady; her furry companion, Lucky; and numerous grand nieces, grand nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, and friends.

A heartfelt thank you to UPMC Family Hospice, especially Kelly, Sonya, Flo, Carrie, and Hal for their wonderful care.

To our caregiver and friend, Connie Bankovich, for her exceptional care, empathy, and love she gave to Sandy and Frank.

A private Time of Remembrance will be celebrated at Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Donegal, with Rev. Keith Deckinger as officiant.
