Shirley Ann Shumaker, our dear wife and mother, joined her heavenly father on April 15, 2026. Wife to husband Paul B. Shumaker for nearly 69 years, Shirley raised their family with love and Christian faith. She served the community with her church through Children's Sunday School, Meals-on-Wheels, Women's Fellowship, Brethren Disaster Relief, and Choir.
Born in Richland Township, Pennsylvania, she graduated from Richland High School and Cambria-Rowe Business School and married her high school sweetheart, living in Ohio and Michigan before settling for the past 50 years in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. She mostly recently lived at the Barnes Place Personal Care Facility in Latrobe and was the reigning Valentine's Day Queen with her King Paul.
Shirley was born March 13, 1935, and was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Emma Wingard, brothers Galen and Marlin Wingard, and sisters Wilma Hostetler and Ruth Beckley-Felix.
Together with husband Paul, the family grew with Denis (Kate Zimmerman), Bradley (Audrey Burton), and Carol (Donald, her favorite son-in-law) Zmick. Oma was a loving playmate and grandmother to 9 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
Shirley most enjoyed being with her family, sharing in board games, tea parties, travel, and music. She taught generations of kids to make woodland fairy houses and build Playmobil homes. A generous, gracious host; there was always room for more friends at the table and everyone was made comfortable in her home. Her delights were seeing the flowers and birds of God's creation.
A private family funeral was conducted with interment at the Ligonier Valley Cemetery. A Memorial Service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held at 10:30 AM on May 30th at the Ligonier First Church of the Brethren in Waterford.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Heifer International (www.heifer.org) or the Ligonier First Church of the Brethren at 405 Route 271, Ligonier PA 15658.
