Thelma Griffith

April 6, 1928 — February 24, 2024

Thelma Jean (Robb) Griffith, peacefully passed away on February 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 6, 1928, in Ligonier, a place that was home to her throughout nearly all her life. 

Thelma was known for her love for family, which shone brightly in every aspect of her life. Her warm and nurturing personality drew others to her, creating a bond that would never be broken. Thelma found joy in simple pleasures like reading, gardening, needlework, and traveling, displaying a creative and adventurous spirit that inspired all who knew her.

Thelma was a 1945 graduate of Ligonier High School and graduated from the Robert Morris School of Business in Pittsburgh.   She held several secretarial jobs, first in Pittsburgh, then with the PA Forest Service in Ligonier, followed by Penn State University Home Economics department.

Thelma was an active and lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she found solace and community, serving as Deacon and in many other ways. Her unwavering faith guided her journey and touched the lives of many within the congregation.

She is survived by her loving children: Sandra Snyder, Todd (Julia) Griffith, Terry Griffith, Kevin (Gabrielle) Griffith, and Joyce (Mark) Markosky; cherished grandmother and great-grandmother of: Brian Snyder (Bethany) and their children Elliana and Barrett, Benjamin (Lisa) Snyder and their daughter Cara, Hayley Snyder (Jaden) and their son Asher, Allen (Sarah) Griffith and their daughters Sofia and Lena, Robert (Yaya Chang) Griffith, William and Ariel, Amy (Ian) Coy, Danielle Griffith and her children Kyan and Kaysa, Camille Griffith (Adryan) and their children Omani and Tikaga, Michael Griffith, Louis (Romy) Griffith and their son Colin, Ellen Griffith (Thibaut), Curtis (Renee) Markosky, Russell Markosky, Eva Jeanne Markosky and Sarah Markosky.

Also survived by a nephew, several nieces, and many cousins.

Thelma shared a beautiful life with her late husband Robert E. Griffith for 53 years. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Barrett Snyder, great-granddaughter Jayla Rodriguez and son-in-law Donald Snyder.

Friends and family will be received Thursday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Snyder-Green Funeral Home 402 E. Church St. Ligonier Pa 15658. The funeral service will be held on Friday March 1, 2024, in the Covenant Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM.

Memorial donations in Thelma’s name can be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or the Alpha-1 Foundation (alpha1.org).

Thelma's legacy of love, service, kindness, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace knowing that she was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
