Willi Daffinger, C.E.C. died unexpectedly on July 13, 2022. He is predeceased by his wife of fifty-three years, Hermine and by his son Charles, Ph.D. cand. He is survived by his daughter, Kim A. Daffinger, Esq. and his son-in-law Joe Greco.
Willi was born in Munich, Germany and emigrated to the US in 1957 where shortly thereafter he was drafted into the US Army where he served back in Germany.
Willi fell in love with New York and immediately acquired cowboy boots and a Stetson hat. He worked in New York, Long Island and Buffalo before accepting the position as Executive Chef at Rolling Rock Country Club for thirty-seven years. Prior to that he cooked for the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Sofia Lauren, Lionel Hampton, the Empress Soraya of Persia, Francois Poincet, the French Foreign Minister and other numerous celebrities and people of importance in Europe where he worked in the best establishments. At Rolling Rock Club he had the pleasure to cook for Dwight D. Eisenhauer. He authored a cookbook "Don't Forget the Lemon Zest" to be published in October. He was a proud member of the American Academy of Chefs and worked to promote the betterment of the organization to develop better junior chefs.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and amassed quite a library. He also enjoyed foraging in the woods for Chantarelle mushrooms in Ligonier which reminded him of the foothills of the Alps. He loved to vacation in Mexico. And, in retirement, he cultivated a beautiful flower garden.
